I'd like to think I am void of pop culture addictions, especially when it comes to social media. However I must admit, I do have an addiction (the first step to recovery is admitting you have a problem, right?) I'll keep my list to a minimum and say that my main 4 are How I Met Your Mother, music, Tumblr, and The Titanic. I have seen every episode of seasons 1-8 of HIMYM at least 3 times, and the 9th season is releasing on Netflix in September so there goes my social life. I can quote almost every episode, know more about their lives than I do some of the people in my life, and own a yellow umbrella. Why do I love this show? I have no clue. Maybe it's the perfect balance of the characters. They are all complete opposites but balance each other out so well. I identify more with Robin (minus the Canada part). I could keep going on about HIMYM but I should probably just move on. Ok, next.. Music! I love music. I love going to local shows. I love traveling to see my favorite bands. Mainly, I listen to punk rock, metal, alternative, and some indie. 90s alternative is my absolute favorite, because I grew up listening to it. Music is just my way of release. I dance competitively and teach, so most of my time is spent with music playing. Now, Tumblr. It's like a blog, but you end up spending hours and days reblogging pictures of cats and ice cream song lyrics and talking to people from other countries. Last, the Titanic. I cannot count how many times I have seen this movie, and I'm not sure why I love it so much. It's the first movie I remember watching. My dad bought it for my mom when it came out on VHS and I have loved it ever since.
It's hard to explain why my addictions are what they are, and I'm embarrassed that they consume so much of my life, but it is awesome to see how I've made friends and gotten to know people because of these similar interests.

Randy Davis blog #1
Hello everyone. As one of the older students in our class, my pop culture obsessions go back much further than most. I remember as a kid , I was obsessed with the Superfriends show, as well as the Looney Tunes show. I remember waking up early on Saturday morning to catch these shows. And, if I missed them, how upset I was and my whole Saturday was ruined. It would feel like the end of the world. In the 90's, I started watching I Love Lucy reruns. I became infatuated with the show as well as Lucille Ball. I began to collect everything that had Lucy on it. I even have a room in my house that is dedicated to her. As far as music goes, I am currently loving anything that has Reba Mcintire or anything with Audra McDonald. Some of my favorite shows that I still watch in reruns are Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Charmed. My current pop culture favorite is Big Brother. I have watched this show since it has premiered. I even watch the late night shows about this very interesting social experiment. My pop culture tastes will vary from time to time as does everyone else. This will continue throughout my life and time. Just think, a couple of decades ago, boy bands were very popular, and then the likes of Justin Bieber came to become the obsession. Gross!! I'd prefer to listen to cats caterwauling than listen to him. I have listened to some of the greatest singers and some of the worst. To me, today's music just doesn't appeal to me as music in the past. This must come from my age. Some of the best pop culture icons have come from my era, such as Whitney Houston and Elton John. That's what I have learned about pop culture. It is never the same... Ever. It has to be an evolving and ever-changing device in order to survive. It is fascinating to me with the current class how many different pop culture likes and dislikes there are. I love the fact that our class loves everything from Beyoncé to The Walking Dead. This will make for a very interesting class. I am looking forward to what lies ahead in the future months.
LJ's Pop Culture Addiction
According to my age, I think I have been through alot of pop culture addiction that were "in" at the time. I can say that I have indulged in every addiction that pop culture has thrown at me. From the time that I could navigate a remote control, I was totally obsessed with SpongeBob Squarepants. And to this day, I can quote anything from an episode. Also to this day, I continue to faithfully watch the always hilarious, re-runs. And now advanced to the future, I thought that I wouldn't really have an addiction, but this class has made me realize that I actually do. YouTube and Netflix. The Gods of the Social Internet. YouTube has taken over too much of my time. I would be on the site for hours and hours and hours. I would go from watching popular viral vidoes of the time to aspiring, underground rap cyphers in the DMV, to conspiricies about 911. Now, its a whole new story. I would strictly watch videos about hair, makeup, DIYs, and other girly stuff. Freshmen year of college, I would watch YouTube before I would start my homework! But besides that YouTube will always be loyal to me when I need a distraction. Speaking of distration, besides YouTube, nothing could distract me from Netflix. Once I sign in, the day is full. I love how all of the previous seasons to any show is available and you're set for the day. My top three shows that I will watch over and over are, Orange is the New Black, Freaky Eaters and My Strange Addiction. Those shows will never get too old for me!

Elizabeth's pop culture addiction- Once Upon A Time
Once Upon A Time
Back in high school, I NEVER watched season shows at all. My friends were all obsessed with One Tree Hill and Greys Anatomy. I was the one that wanted to be outside playing sports and doing anything outdoors. I never had time to sit down and watch a show. Now that I am married, I had a little more time on my hands in the summer to watch a little TV. My husband introduced me to Breaking Bad and let me tell you, I could NOT stop watching it. I was so addicted that I would finish a whole season in one day. So when that show ended, I wanted to find another because it was so entertaining for me. I felt like I was in that world with the actors! This is when I began watching Once Upon A Time. I wasn't sure how I felt about the fantasy vs. reality world but now it's pretty much all I think about! In my opinion I think of it as this couldn't actually happen but it's fun to use your imagination. I imagine myself with the actors in the show, I also did plays and musicals so it really intrigued me, and it makes it feel so real. Every episode leaves you on edge and makes you want to watch the next one and the next and the next. Of course that's what I did all last spring on Netflix. Now I am waiting for the next season to come out in 28 days! The term Heregenemy that we used in class relates to this show because it's in a fantasy world but ideology is used for the different beliefs people have about the show. Some may think of it as magical or some a kiddish show, but my belief would definitely be magical and action packed!
