Randy Davis blog #1

Hello everyone. As one of the older students in our class, my pop culture obsessions go back much further than most. I remember as a kid , I was obsessed with the Superfriends show, as well as the Looney Tunes show. I remember waking up early on Saturday morning to catch these shows. And, if I missed them, how upset I was and my whole Saturday was ruined. It would feel like the end of the world. In the 90's, I started watching I Love Lucy reruns. I became infatuated with the show as well as Lucille Ball. I began to collect everything that had Lucy on it. I even have a room in my house that is dedicated to her. As far as music goes, I am currently loving anything that has Reba Mcintire or anything with Audra McDonald. Some of my favorite shows that I still watch in reruns are Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Charmed. My current pop culture favorite is Big Brother. I have watched this show since it has premiered. I even watch the late night shows about this very interesting social experiment. My pop culture tastes will vary from time to time as does everyone else. This will continue throughout my life and time. Just think, a couple of decades ago, boy bands were very popular, and then the likes of Justin Bieber came to become the obsession. Gross!! I'd prefer to listen to cats caterwauling than listen to him. I have listened to some of the greatest singers and some of the worst. To me, today's music just doesn't appeal to me as music in the past. This must come from my age. Some of the best pop culture icons have come from my era, such as Whitney Houston and Elton John. That's what I have learned about pop culture. It is never the same... Ever. It has to be an evolving and ever-changing device in order to survive. It is fascinating to me with the current class how many different pop culture likes and dislikes there are. I love the fact that our class loves everything from Beyoncé to The Walking Dead. This will make for a very interesting class. I am looking forward to what lies ahead in the future months.
