Fourth Post

In today's class we talked about princess culture and if it was to blame for the way children act after seeing Disney princesses on TV or the big screen. The fact is that princess culture is not to blame for this outcome, but the parents themselves are to blame. Parents who did not have much or had very little as a children tend to force logic onto their children through many different means. Some tend to give their children whatever they ask for even if it spoils them rotten. The fact is giving your children all that they desire is something that should be done carefully and not just because it is possible.

Another thing we talked about is the changes newer Disney princesses have compare to the older Disney princesses. In the older Disney princess movies most princesses tend to follow social hetero-normative standards. Such as cleaning, cooking, washing of clothing, etc. Then through all of this they will miraculously encounter their true love and fall madly in love with one another. Older Disney princess movies also always never showed or developed a story around the mother daughter aspect of the movie. Unlike in Brave where the bonds between a mother and daughter are tested to their up most limits showing both sides the flaws that they had bring them closer together and strengthening their bonds. Just like with Frozen, but the aspect in this movie is not mother and daughter. The aspect of it is the bond and ties between sisters. To me the newer Disney princess movies are far better then the older ones. The relations that are discussed in these movie hit and illuminate problems that people are seen to be faced with more in today's since.

Third Post

The topic feminist is a controversial and very misunderstood subject that many just do not want to either deal with or express their opinions on the matter. Feminists is a word that most men would truly say is not something a man could be or would be related with; however, that is not the case feminism is something that everyone can be wither that is man or woman. The fear that men can not be feminists is something that men have decided to limit themselves with. The fact is most people not just men, but many people have problems accepting or learning about something they do not fully understand or that is new to them. The fear of change is something that affects people into disbelieving and distrusting different ideals and ideologies.
Feminism is something that many have started to follow due to the rise in famous actors who are starting to come out and say that they are feminists. To me the rise in people saying their feminists is all due to Beyonce saying she is a feminist; however, this to me is just her fans saying or doing what she does and that they do not truly understand the meaning of feminism. Thought not all of the up and coming feminists are like this. Some truly understand the meaning of what they say when they call themselves feminists. The understanding of being a feminist is an important matter and should not just be said just because someone famous says they are but because you truly believe in the principles that it stands for.

Second Post

The narrative criticism of Kanye's "New York Times Article" and "Jimmy Kimmel Talk show" helped to show the proper way to place and decipher the deeper meanings hidden in them. In the New York Times article Kanye's interview was broken down and looked at as a standalone source and not to be judged by other controversial articles. Reading an article and not pulling in unwanted texts from outside sources is a very hard thing to do in today's society; however, it is not an impossible task. Using some of the Technics we learned in class we can with effort present a narrative criticism. The first Technic used for this is "Setting" of the article, the place in which it takes place. Second is "Characters" who the article is talking about mainly, and whether they are "Flat" or "Round" as characters. Third is "Narrative" who is speaking telling the story of the article. Fourth is "Relationship" which is split between "Causal" which is something happening that was caused by a previous event, and "Temporal" which is the reflection on past events that lead to present situations. Lastly is the "Moral" of the story which splits into "Coherence" which is the structural, character, and material, then we have "Fidelity" which is the ideological argument. With these five steps shown it is entirely possible to critically analyze an article without being to heavily influenced by outside views that are related to the current article at hand. Learning these steps is the key to helping maintain an open perspective, and to not be swayed in the opinion that has been reached.

First Post

The classification of "High" and "Low" culture caught me off guard I never really thought that most of the things in my daily life or things that are enjoyable would be considered low culture. The very concept that some of the most basic things we all probably do is looked on as low culture left a strong impression on me, but even knowing about the difference between high culture and low culture does not change the fact that I do what I love to do. Yes, it may be looked at as a low culture act, but that does not make it any less enjoyable. We all have things that are listed as low class, but this does not mean that we are any different then before. The understanding we have has changed, however, we still watch our favorite shows or movies. The classification of a high and low culture to me after thinking about really does not matter to me. I am who I am regardless what classifications given.

Overall I believe that taking this class will help me to better grasp what can be seen in my day to day life. Learning how to better see what is truly happening in today's society, be that a high or low culture is something I find truly interesting. The ability to differentiate culture into classification makes me wonder what else we will learn in this class. The anticipation I get from this class in wondering what we will learn next and how that will change my views makes me unable to wait and see what we will read next.
