My biggest issue lately has been the Food inc video we watched in class. I can not eat anything without thinking about the video and I really wanted to come into class for the second half of that video and ask the teacher to please, please, please let me skip the rest of the video. I knew pigs were the next subject to be shown in the video and my husbands favorite food is bacon so there is no way I can just stop cooking it and buying it.
I will tell you this though, I am so glad I saw the organics part of the video. I cried during the first half of the video because that poor mother that lost her child and how our government did not see it as priority to make changes but the last half of the video inspired me to grow my own vegetables and instead of looking at houses in the city to be close to everything, to look at houses in the country so we will more then likely eat less fast food due to being to far away to just go around the corner and get McDonalds (which is my husbands favorite too).
I am appalled by the food industry and how much they are keeping from society and I can not stand seeing animals being treated so horribly and then dying. The video opened my eyes to what I was putting into my 14 months old mouth and made me a very stressed out momma because I work, I am in school full time and am moving out of our house today into a hotel until we get into our new house and it is VERY hard not to get any of those cheap fast foods. I have noticed how expensive and hard to find organic food is and I have no idea where a farmers market is, therefore I will be having a garden and atleast trying to lessen the chemicals and processed foods that go into my little families mouth. The video made me a very angry citizen and customer of the food industry but I am glad my eyes were opened to what is going on.
Those poor chickens, hens, cows, and pigs need to live a full life and die honorably not just laying on top of each other and sitting in their own poop.
I have in turn added multiple instagram channels about organic eating and looked up organic and healthy recipes for meals, as well as started ideas for my very own vegetable garden this coming spring and made my family and loved ones aware of what is going on in the food industry. I will also be looking into writing an article about this subject because I believe young students my age need to be aware and I do not think enough of them are.
