The article on the womens basketball player, Brittney Griner, is very interesting. The article gives a perspective from Griner's pount of view, which includes her personal life. She gives insight to how her childhood was. Griner states that she realized that she was homodsexual from a very young age. She describes the struggles that she dealt with within her family when she came out. She explained how her father did not take it well and was hostile towards her, but how her mother was more understanding and accepting. It was not until she started doing well with basketball that her father started to accept her for who she was. She stated that it may have been to the fact that he realized that she can do well in life even if she is homosexual. Her insight to how homosexulaity is treated in the mainstream media is baffling. Griner seemed to be taken off gaurd when she could not be openly homosexual while attending Baylor. Dispite being lied to during her recuiting process by the Baylor coach about her homosexuality not being a problem, Griner agreed to not be open about her homosexuality. During that time of her life, it did not bother her much and just decided it was easier for everyone if she did not speak on the subject. However, it was once she was drafted to the WNBA that she became public with the media about her sexuality. She now represents as a role model to the homosexulality community and those who support gender neutality. With her opportunity to play in the NBA, it would be ground breaking for the right step towards gender equality. I think that she is great for the transition of views that are currently changing in our society. With her loveable personality, it makes people realize that even a person who chooses to be openly homosexual and gender neutral can have great success.
