People are so quick to put a label on everything. From the time you are born and they put that name bracelet on you, your parents have X amount of days to give you your name and even before you are born, people want to know if you are a girl or a boy. From that point on society tells you who you are and how you should dress or how you should act. I honestly think society should go shove it. I think people put their noses in everything, maybe they should mind their own business and worry about themselves for a change. Who cares is someone is born a boy and dress like a girl or vice versus. Brittney Giner has it rough, all she wants to do is play ball. I couldnt imagine being distracted by people commenting on how I look or how I am when those people know nothing about me. Owning the Middle was a great read and Im glad I read every bit of it because no matter who you are, I think if you finished reading that without wanting to be more of yourself and less of what society labels you then you were distracted by reading it or are completely incapable of being motivated. I would not say that Brittney Griner is a feminist, as much as she is all about being yourself. She is a role model for women and men.

The story on Becky Hammon was more interesting after I watched the video in class. I didnt get as inspired reading two pages vs. like 12. I guess I was distracted while reading it by the bird that sounded like it was dying in the tree by me. But I love the fact that she is a women coaching a male professional sports team. It goes to show that society is getting a little bit more accepting of women in a leadership role when these men respect and listen to Hammon and she gets paid to do something Im sure plenty of men were well qualified to do but for some reason ( probably her skill and expertise) she was the one picked. It makes me so angry when people feel like looking at the way a person looks instead of their abilities.

Maybe if media and press focused more on skills instead of outward appearance a little more then society as a whole would to.
