Big Brother
I never really put much thought into what goes into making Big Brother until we discussed it in class. I had always assumed it was a little scripted, but mainly reality. I had also never put much thought into all the different aspects of the show such and Julie Chen being involved more and adding the twists and turns. I find it interesting as to what our definition of "reality" tv is. Sure, they're real people having real conflicts and really living in this house. But at the same time, so much of it is set up. But then, being "Big Brother," I feel like that may be the point. The entire show is a reference to the George Orwell classic, where government watches every move and controls people's lives. That is exactly what the producers of this show are doing. Is it really "reality?" I'm not sure. But it makes for good entertainment.

What hit me about our last class is the realization that yea there is drama on reality tv shows and I always thought that it was self- inflicted in a way. The cast knew what they were getting into when they started on the show and did what they wanted and in return because of their actions or the things they said there was problems and drama but then in class I realized that the producers can actually create a lot of that drama. I had never thought about how the producer can twist things someone says to make the audience think of them differently or manipulate a conversation to start problems or spark more interest in the show. I have never seen Big Brother but I have seen Jersey Shore or Teen mom or 16 and pregnant and after class I read some articles on cast members trying to set the record straight on what really happened as opposed to what was seen on the reality show. Some things didn't even happen at all but the producer lead audience to believe that it did which in return creates backlash towards cast members and makes drama between them and even the audience. Reality tv is crazy and I honestly do not know what to believe when I watch it anymore, but it sucks you in so much!!
